Sometimes the call of the wild is so strong that you simply need to stop what you’re doing and just go. This was the case last July when myself and two other friends decided to pack my 2-door BMW completely full and drive straight to Colorado. I generally invite those individuals who are somewhat familiar with anything pertaining to the outdoors however, most of the usual people I asked were unavailable or unwilling to be so spontaneous as to pack up and leave within a few days notice. But in my mind I was determined to get to the mountains and would have preferred company. So I threw my general requirements out the window and asked anyone who would listen. The result: two friends who had absolutely no backpacking experience and one of them had only camped once in his life. They proved themselves to be quite capable however, and the trip was definitely more enjoyable than if I had gone solo. Over the entire trip we visited 5 specific locations including the San Isabel National Forest, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the beautiful mountain towns of Buena Vista, Leadville and Estes Park, all while crammed into my 18 year old sport sedan. Here are just a few shots from two of those locations.
