Appalachian Trail 2014

The mountains and the cold weather are in my blood having grown up in Pennsylvania and then moving to Kansas City where I would make quarterly trips to the rockies for the past ten years. So having recently moved to Florida, I desperately needed a good does of both of those elements as well as some good backpacking and the closest combination of all of these elements (in sufficient portions I might add) was the AT in northern Georgia. We began just 15 miles from the beginning of the trail at Woods Gap and our goal was the beautiful stone shelter on top of blood mountain just nine miles in. We didn’t quite make it to blood mountain so, having brought no tent, we built a temporary overnight shelter. Here are a few shots from our hike/camp. (Sorry some of the photos are from my ipod)

  1. Well..I could enjoy the cold on those terms…as long as some kind of electric outfit warmer was included :0)
